Editing
I am currently in the process of editing my group's short film. I am learning a lot during this process. My only previous experience with video editing was creating my high school soccer highlight tape. After reading chapter 6 in moving pictures which is on editing and various techniques used, it has been cool to try it out myself. The importance of editing goes under the radar for most people in my opinion. It is what makes a film look good and professional, and is an essential element of filmmaking.
With our short film, I have all of the shots sequenced in the way that we want them and have added transitions where necessary. It was not an easy process putting all the shots together. When we had multiple takes I had to decide which take is the best. I also had to decide which order of shots made the most sense for the plot. This took some work because we did not always film in the same sequence as the plot.
My next step is to now add a soundtrack and any other audio or visual effects. I look forward to this part because this is when our short film will really begin to feel like a movie. I can't wait to see how the final product turns out.
